FILM

puan

a coming-of-age performance exploring self-identity and womanhood as a young Indonesian woman. The project illustrate the journey to self-acceptance and liberation.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR, CHOREOGRAPHER, PERFORMER: Elvina Raharja
DRAMATURGE: Queenie Seguban
DOP & EDITOR : Phil Kim
SOUND EDITOR: ccourier139

Commissioned by CanAsian Dance for its 2021 Grit: Short Dances program.

“For me, Puan struck a chord in a way none of the other pieces did. Although Elvina Raharja crafted it as an exploration of womanhood (puan means “woman” in Indonesian), I saw it more as a look at the immigrant experience. Her piece, to me at least, perfectly encapsulates what it means to straddle two cultures.” - Joshua Chong (The Dance Current)
