Creative Director | Producer | Choreographer

That was my earliest memory of performance (thanks Dad for the picture). As far as I could remember, I had always been fascinated with performing arts. But I didn’t have the courage or confidence to go to a dance class until I moved to Vancouver, BC when I was 17.

Growing up in Indonesia, I was forced to adhere to this impossible beauty standard (fair-skinned, long hair, and thin body) as long as I could remember. It was implied from a young age that my worth only goes as far as my physical look. I was an overweight kid growing up and I am considered plus-sized in Indonesia. Until this day, people still told me that I would be prettier if I were skinnier. This constant judgement and impossible beauty standard affected my mental health, and as a result, it also affected my relationship with others. I hated myself for the longest time, until I found dance.

Dance has played a significant role in helping finding my confidence and voice as a young woman. Through movement, I realized that I am enough just the way I am and that my physical appearance doesn't determine my self-worth. This film is long overdue for me, this is the film that I needed to see growing up as a young girl. I wish to reach at least one girl out there and remind them that they are enough as they are.
